Quote of the Day

Posted Mon, 2010-08-16 21:32 by Chuck

Angry white man? What the hell are they angry about anyway? They haven't been enslaved on plantations, had their lands stolen, been subjected to genocide by U.S. Army, suffered mass imprisonment, forced into mass poverty, been raped or shot down in the streets by cops. They are angry because of the stirrings of the poor and oppressed racial groups below.

— Lorenzo Kom'boa Ervin

August 18

1893 -- The day after a riot of the unemployed, Emma Goldman addresses a public meeting, in NY city urging those in need to take bread if they are hungry. Tomorrow evening she helps lead a procession of several hundred anarchists to Union Square, where, among many other speakers, she addresses a crowd of the unemployed.
