Pittsburgh Protests 3,000 Milestone
Note: this is only a report from an attendee at the events and is not an official or consensed to statement from POG.The day after the 3,000th U.S. casualty in Iraq, Pittsburgh activists took to the streets in protest of the continuing toll U.S. militarism and empire are inflicting on the people of the world.
For an hour protesters held signs in front of the local army recruiting station, a location directly connected to allowing the continuation of the war. When the protest concluded, a majority of protesters decided to take it to the streets, marching through traffic to the local marine recruiting station a couple blocks away.
At that point, activists used a dumpster to block access to the station door and shut down the road outside with barriers. During this time the door of the army station was apparently smashed as the returning march encountered a destroyed glass door.
If tonight’s events are any indication, Pittsburgh Organizing Group and its allies are determined to continue their long-standing resistance to militarism, war and empire in 2007.
In solidarity,
