ROTC Buildings Targeted in Raleigh and Chapel Hill, North Carolina

News Archive"This is a call to action. Stop these recruitment centers that target poor people and people of color to fight to maintain the power structure that (literally and figuratively) imprisons us daily."

This is a quote from an email communique sent to corporate media.

Early Wednesday morning, two ROTC buildings on the college campuses of NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill were painted blood red and covered with anti-war slogans.

"Thank goodness they used water-based paint," said Angelo Baldwin, a crew member. The slogans -- including "we won't fight your wars!" -- also were removed quickly, but the doors must be repainted."

Something to be learned from this, I believe.

Heh, too bad most commercially available paint (and any that dries in a reasonable amount of time) is water based. Any latex or acrylic based paints (i e pigment subsumed into a plastic polymer and some sort of thinner to keep it soluble) is water based, as water is a great solute for plastics in certain forms. Otherwise one would be using oil paint, which can take days to dry depending on the thickness.

The comments on the second article were scary, especially this one, which i hope/wish was a joke:

"
This is blatant terrorism.

Several conservative student groups will be holding a freedom rally, tomorrow evening at 7pm in the Pit! BE THERE!

Never forget -- 9/11

Never forget -- Osama bin Laden

Never forget -- you might be next

Never forget -- conservatives will keep us safe!
"

--terrorism yeah, be afraid of paint, live in fear, fear everything! The Patriarchs will protect you!

Suppose this sort of thing escalates. Perhaps it would take an escalation in the current war for this to happen, or perhaps not, but do we all know what happened to these sorts of facilities during Vietnam?

i sure hope they used an anonymos remailer...

Here's a good one:

I hope that people don't have any illusion about regular email being anonymous. If you setup a free webmail account somewhere and send an email from it, it still has your computer's internet address, or ip, embedded in the message. Anonymous remailers get around this by sending the message through a number of servers. In some cases, like at universities, your ip may even be something like lastname.ucblahblah.edu .

I don't know how many of you are familier with the magazine 2600 but they host a confrence every couple of years with a focus on the subject of Technology and anonymity and it just so happens all the audio from the last couple confrences are free for download in audio format.

If you would like to educate yourself on the topics decussed in the above comments this is a good place to start.
