[edit] N30

Crowd Estimates: AFAIK, the lowest estimate is 35,000 in the AFL-CIO march and 3,000 in the street blockades and surrounding actions. Mike Erwin 06:13, 18 Jul 2006 (PDT)

Given the anarchist nature of this site, can someone add and explain the relationship between DAN (the Direct Action Network) and SAR (the Seattle Anarchist Response)? I read some early claims that the Ruckus Society (among other groups) bypassed consensus process and pushed no-property-destruction rules into the DAN action guidelines; some dissenters formed SAR in response. I was not there and others might be able to clarify this. Mike Erwin 06:13, 18 Jul 2006 (PDT)

[edit] "N30"

The timeline's off. Although some people arrived in the blockade area before 7:00, the mass marches left Victor Steinbook Park and (ottomh) Seattle Central Community College between 7:00 and 7:30. I checked ARC 11134 (the police radio recordings, tape 2, disk 2b, tracks 5-6); the police began using tear gas between 8:36 and 8:40; there's a 4 1/2 minute gap in the recording followed by firing sounds. <ed: November's recording was erased before December's copying. Officer Lawson reads out the times, over the hiss of the erased section. According the the SPD AAR, they did not even stage Chemical Agent Response teams before 9:00. According to earlier sections, they were deploying these before 8:00 and according to the following section they were firing chemical grenades before 9:00.>
