Prisoner of Conscience

Prisoner of conscience (POC) is a term coined by the international human rights advocacy organization Amnesty International. It refers to anyone imprisoned because of their race, religion, color, language, sexual orientation, or belief, so long as they have not used or advocated violence.

Other groups have extended the definition beyond non-violent resistance, asserting that people have the right to self-defense. Various organizations such as the Anarchist Black Cross offer support to all prisoners engaged in class war and do not adhere to standard definitions, maintaining that law and the "movement" have failed to adequately address political changes and repression in the last 10-15 years.
