C-Squat
From Infoshop OpenWiki
C Squat is a squat in New York City on Avenue C between 9th and 10th street which is a haven for punk musicians with a taste for alternative lifestyles.
C-Squat has played host to a number of punk rock shows throughout its existence, including the annual Cracktoberfest. It is also the home of several New York Punk musicians, including members of Leftover Crack, Choking Victim, Banji, INDK, and Morning Glory.
In 2002, the government of New York City granted ownership of 11 squats on the Lower East Side to the Urban Homesteading Assistance board, including C-Squat; the UHAB is in the process of securing loans to help repair the buildings, after which ownership will be turned over to the occupants. Accordingly, C-Squat is no longer technically a "squat", but rather a legally occupied building.
