Anarchist Neighborhood:Waukegan

Sunrise Collective -- An anarcho-communist/syndicalist collective out of Waukegan, Illinois. Our current focuses are on:

Gentrification: The city council has created a "Master Plan" which involves condos, upscale restaurants, and a deindustrialization of our harbor. This will, of course, force poor and working-class peoples in Waukegan out of the area.

Immigration: Waukegan's population is predominantly Hispanic working-class, and a sizeable number of them are undocumented peoples. The SRC has been working to draw connections between immigration, wage labor, nationalism, and anarchism.

Towing Fee: The City of Waukegan has created a bill which blatantly attacks the poor. Under the new law, an uninsured driver will have his car towed with a 500$ fee. After court costs and towing fees, an uninsured driver can expect to pay around 800$ for a speeding ticket.
