Grand Rapids does not currently have nor has it historically had a very strong anarchist and anti-authoritarian community. Nevertheless, there are a number of different projects and organizations that have a strong radical tilt to them.

  • ACTIVATE - An affiliate of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), ACTIVATE is a radical group working towards social change through community building, education, and direct action.
  • Bloom Collective - An infoshop located at 1134 Wealthy St SE.
  • Critical Mass Grand Rapids - Critical Mass rides take place on the last friday of every month (April through October). Meet at Veterans Park at 5:30pm.
  • Industrial Workers of the World - Over 100 year old labor union advocating solidarity unionism [1] and the One Big Union [2] as the way to secure gains on the job today while building a "new society within the shell of the old." In 2005 the Grand Rapids branch began an organizing drive of Starbucks. In 2005 Starbucks signed a settlement agreement with the National Labor Relations Board vowing to end anti-union intimidation against baristas interested in joining the IWW. The intimidation increased which resulted in another NLRB investigation in 2008.
