Anarchism in Slovenia

[edit] Contemporary Anarchism
Much anarchist activity in Slovenia lies in the capital, Ljubljana. The city has a strong artist community and subsequently creative resistance is the most popular form of anti-capitalist activity. The city is host to a squatted army barracks, vibrant anarcho-punk scene and pirate radio station.
In 1991, the Yugoslav Peoples Army left Slovenia and with it the army barracks of Metelkova. Becoming abandoned, peace and anti-capitalist activists moved into the area, squatting it in hopes of creating alternative spaces for the promotion of anti-militarist, liberatory activity. The space has been through several high-profile confrontations with the state, but now enjoys a somewhat stable, semi-legal status. The space is currently host to an infoshop, several venues and clubs and a constant host to various concerts, workshops, film screenings, speakers and other events.
