The Shrike is a fictional character in Dan Simmons' Hyperion series.

The Shrike is a three meter tall robot cover in metal thorns, blades, razor wire, and cutting edges. It has long blade like fingers and similar toe blades. It resembles a giant bladed robot. The Shrike can alter it's density so its weight is never truly known, although it had once been weighted at 1.6 tons.

The Shrike has blood red eyes and four arms. Each one is covered in blades. The Shrike's color is "quicksilver over chrome".

The Shrike's main advantage in combat is its speed. It has no limit to its speed. It can move through time, create unlimited copies of itsself, suffer massive damage and still function at 100%. Its blades are capable of cutting though anything, even material such as phase suits, which were thought to be uncuttable previously.

The Shrike can also free cast, meaning he can instantly teleport to anywhere.

It likes to "appear" right next to its victim then disappear, leaving the victim in bloody pieces. Sometimes it takes the victim to the far future, to the Tree of Thorns, where The Shrike will impale its victim onto one of its countless thorns to suffer forever. The impaled victims do not die.

An example of its speed is when "thousands" of Shrikes appeared and massacred over 50 000 soldiers and destroyed several orbiting ships. It managed to accomplish that in under 30 seconds. It was revealed later that it was really 1 Shrike moving at incredible speeds.

Another example would be The Shrike aiding Colonel Fedmahn Kassad. Kassad, who wore a Phase Suit could not even see The Shrike move when it decided to help him kill the Ouster invaders. Given that Kassad could walk around lasers when wearing a phase suit and The Shrike could move as though Kassad was frozen, it would have been moving at several thousand, if not millions times light speed.

The Shrike was created by the Ultimate Intelligence, the UI. The Shrike was sent back in time to lure out the empathy part of the human god.
