MAYDAY 2000 IN FINLAND
On 1st May there will be a demonstration and a carnival against capitalism
in Helsinki. The events are organised by a group of Finnish
anarchist, antifascists, autonomous groups and environmentalists.
Main themes for the day are:
- Work and income
- Worldwide solidarity and freedom of movement
- Biocapitalism and genetic engineering
WORK AND INCOME
1st May used to be a celebration day for the labour movement,
which now has become a part of the capitalist system and the
day has become a ceremony for politicians, ministers and trade
union bosses to preach to their supporters.
We are not interested in being part of this. For us 1st May
is a celebration against the slavery of work and a day of
action against the capitalist power and oppression.
We will fight against wage slavery on Mayday and every day
and we demand a 50 FIM (about 8 euro's / $) minimum wage /
hour.
WORLDWIDE SOLIDARITY AND FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT
Capital moves freely across the borders, and nation states
have become local representatives of transnational power structures.
But people's movement and human rights are beign restricted
by nationality, skincolour or passport. Hundreds of people
are being killed every year because of racism and xenophobia.
Detention centres and police violence and racism are a part
of European every day life, and have been practiced by so-called
"left-wing covernments" a long before Jörg Haider. We demand
a right for a free movement for people, and the destruction
of the Fortress Europe.
BIOCAPITALISM AND GENETIC ENGINEERING
Capitalism has always tried to expand the exploitation into
new areas. Now capital is trying to take over the basics of
life - which is why we are talking about biocapitalism.
Genetic engineering, patenting of life and the control of
the multinational corporations over the food production are
a threat to people and the environment. Animals are being
treated as machines and the genetic code of life is being
tampered with.
The import and production of genetically modified organisms
(GMO's) must be stopped and peasant communities around the
world should have a right to live without multinationals controlling
their lives.
