I found your treatise intersting and humorous. How anyone can believe that human beings will just naturally get along without some authority defies belief. You have a much higher opinion of human beings than I do.

I teach school and come in contact with a variety of human types daily. If everyone could, in fact, control his human urges and voluntarily follow good behavior guidelines, I would be the first to sign up for your philosophy. Unfortunately, I live in the real world, not some unreal utopia.

Anarchism and feminism have always been closely linked. Many outstanding feminists have also been anarchists, including the pioneering Mary Wollstonecraft (author of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman), the Communard Louise Michel, Voltairine de Cleyre and the tireless champion of women's freedom, Emma Goldman (see her famous essays "The Traffic in Women", "Woman Suffrage", "The Tragedy of Woman's Emancipation", "Marriage and Love" and "Victims of Morality", for example). Freedom, the world's oldest anarchist newspaper, was founded by Charlotte Wilson in 1886. In addition, all the major anarchist thinkers (bar Proudhon) were supporters of women's equality.

The media is fond of mischaracterizing anarchists, turning us into all sorts of boogeymen -- nihilistic terrorists, anti-technology dimwits, chaos-mongering hooligans, maniacal vandals -- to the extent that, at least in the American media, "anarchist" is a dirty word, representing an unreasonable "extremist" point-of-view.

But is this true? Are we really all of those bad things? To understand what anarchists are really about -- that is, to escape the trap of media hype, you have to look beyond that caricature and see what anarchists really do.

We thinks that copyrights, trademarks, and intellectual property should be abolished. Proudhon said it long ago, that "property is theft," and if anything current intellectual property fights on the Internet bolster his claim. Intellectual property is for those with power, who can use the force of the state to enforce their claims. But intellectual property simply gets in the way of communication and the sharing of ideas, be it in the arts or in biology.
