We only fail if we do nothing, and then we will see the continuing nightmare that we are currently experiencing go on endlessly. In fact, just as we see the LS. coast oil spill, I believe that we will see more industrial "accidents" begin to destroy and despoil whole areas of the world. We are entering the final stages of capitalism.
