Austin, TX-- The Grassroots News Network in Austin, KOOP Austin 91.7 FM,
and ICONMedia issue solidarity statement today for Belgrade, Yugoslavia
radio station B92 and encourage other U.S. media to join international
campaign to support independent media in Yugoslavia.

SOLIDARITY STATEMENT WITH B92
On March 24, 1999, Yugoslavian authorities confiscated the transmitter of
radio station B92 in Belgrade. The station is the only significant
electronic media in Serbia that remained truly independent, both from the
regime and from the opposition. It became an informative, cultural and
democratic center of Belgrade and Serbia.
Immediately after the closure of the station in Belgrade, B92 supporters in
Amsterdam, Holland, joined together to launch an international campaign for
B92 and other independent media in Serbia and Kosovo. B92 continues to
broadcast on the Internet. (http://www.b92.net/)
Today GNN-Austin joins the international campaign for B92, extends its
support to independent media makers inside Serbia and Kosovo and others
working in Amsterdam, Holland, and urges independent media within the
United States to join the effort.
GNN-Austin encourages U.S. print, radio, television, and Internet media to:
1) utilize the B92 web site - including its realaudio transmission - as a
source of news and information; 2) promote the international B92 campaign;
and 3) to provide financial aid to ensure continued operation of the station.
