San Francisco Chiapas Protesters Arrested in Civil Disobediance

Wednesday morning Jan 7 1998 3 protesters in solidarity with the Zapatistas and the people of Chiapas were arrested at 3:30 am, in front of the Mexican consulate on Market Street.

John Viola, Deborah, and one other had been setting up tents for an ongoing vigil at the consulate on the sidewalk when the police began harrassing the vigilers for 'encampment' etc. The vigilers decided to take Direct Action by sleeping directly in front of the doors of the consulate, and were arrested for trespassing.
