Greece: Uprisings in many prisons
After the beating of Giannis Dimitrakis a anarchist prisoner held for his involvement in the robbery of a bank, in the prison of Malandrino a large number of co-prisoners refused to enter their cages and climb up to the roof to demonstrate their anger and opposition to the oppression they face. After the beating of Giannis Dimitrakis a anarchist prisoner held for his involvement in the robbery of a bank, in the prison of Malandrino a large number of co-prisoners refused to enter their cages and climb up to the roof to demonstrate their anger and opposition to the oppression they face. Until now they haven't enter their cages and have made a list of demands: among others, prisoners are demanding the abolition of disciplinary measures, the conversion of life to twelve-year sentences, regular leaves for all, release after spending 3/7 of the sentence and the conversion of 25-year sentences to 10 years.
Their move met the solidarity of prisoners in many other prisons in Greece (up to 10 prisons have in some way involve in this uprising) as well among anarchist groups which have expressed their solidarity in other ways such as:
Solidarity concentration in Omonoia square (a central square in Athens)
Solidarity move outside the president of the republic's house
Solidarity concentration in Thessaloniki
Moto march towards the Korydallos prison in Athens
Solidarity move at the Volos prisons
Some of the uprisings have met heavy repression by special police forces. (Korydallos,Patras,Kerkyra)
Our thoughts are focused in how we can make evident and clear that the face of democracy is the one that can be seen in the facade of a prison, and of course the fact that they are not alone in their struggle for dignity and against repression.
