ZAPATISTA ARMY OF NATIONAL LIBERATION. MEXICO. SIXTH COMMISSION.

March 7, 2006

To all adherents to the Sixth Declaration and the Other Campaign:

Compa~eros and compa~eras:

We have received, from the Other Oaxaca, another denunciation of the climate
of repression that the compa~eros and compa~eras of the Other Campaign
suffer in that state. It is no longer just about San Blas Atempa, Santa
Catarina Juquila, Chuxnaba'n, Quetzaltepec Mixe, San Andre's Monta~a,
Silacayopan and Santiago Ixtayutla; now the following is added:

On March 4, 2006, in the community of Santiago Cuixtla, municipality of
Santos Reyes Nopala, Oaxaca, the townspeople were attacked with firearms.
The cowardly attack was directed by municipal mayor Freddy Gil Pineda Gopar,
and by other PRI supporters, and left two people gravely injured: compa~eros
Jesu's Carmona Mijangos and Marino Cruz Canseco. Not satisfied with shooting
up a peaceful meeting, the state and municipal police arrested compa~eros
Roberto Sa'nchez Ria~o, Tirso Di'az Herna'ndez, Serefino Herna'ndez Cruz, Simo'n
Velasco Ruiz, Carmelo Herna'ndez Alave's, Pedro Rami'rez Herna'ndez, Arnulfo
Herna'ndez Corte's and Severo Cruz Lo'pez. In addition to these eight arrests,
compa~ero Toma's Riuz Carmona is currently missing. These injured, detained,
and disappeared compa~eros are members of the Revolutionary Popular Front
(FPR) and the Indian Organizations for Human Rights in Oaxaca (OIDHO),
adherents to the Sixth Declaration and the Other Campaign, and demand:

1. An immediate solution to the political conflict of Santiago Cuixtla,
Santos Reyes Nopala, Juquila, Oaxaca.

2. The immediate and unconditional release of the compa~eros arrested in
that community and the return of the compa~ero who was disappeared.

3. The cessation of all forms of repression and intimidation against the
townspeople on the part of the municipal and state governments.

4. The removal of Santos Reyes Nopala mayor Feddy Gil Pineda Gopar and the
initiation of a legal process against him and the others implicated in these
events.

We call on the Other Oaxaca and on all the friends of the Other Campaign
throughout the country to join us in supporting the struggle of these
compa~eros. Let us unite our strength against government authoritarianism.

AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY; FOR THE LIBERATION OF ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS!

It's sad that the grave situation in oaxaca goes unnoticed, even by most radicals. Two nights ago i met a man who does a lot of work in Oaxaca, and he was telling me how paramilitary attacks like this happen all the time. Come to think of it, the night that i met him he was telling me about a paramilitary attack that happened a few days before (which, unfortunately, I do not believe was the attack mentioned in this article, which means that there has been yet another).

He was also talking about how there are countless human rights observers and international radicals in chiapas but practically none in oaxaca. There are lots of mexican anarchists (many of the groups are named after Ricardo Flores Magon) working in Oaxaca, and it sounds like they would like some more support. It would be good if news of these attacks was more widely distributed. Remember, the reason that the zapatistas haven't been destroyed is because there is so much national and international attention that the government is more hesitant to commit atrocities.

So lets make sure that people know about the indigenous/ anarchist struggle in Oaxaca!

is there any kind of contacts for the groups down there that anarchists in the USA could be publicizing to get people to go down there or send resources or anything like that? i mean, i bet sending a video camera or 2 down there could help them out some.

Folks from Austin Indymedia made this film which is a about the human
rights and anarchist movements in Oaxaca and making conections to
other struggles against globalization.

There are a number of anarchist groups in Mexico City that are invoulved
in solidarity with COMPA, CIPO-RFM and other Magonista/anarchist
groups. In the states there are some folks but it's still catching on.

Actually the author of that new Flores Magon reader has been doing a speaking tour, and talked a bit about the Magonistas in Oaxaca - here in New York it sparked a pretty interesting discussion about all that, thankfully a journalist who had just been down there was in the audience and had a lot of good info. I think people in the know should organize more speaking tours, etc. - because like someone above said, even the radical left focuses too little on the plight of Oaxaca and its radicals, largely because there simply isnt too much information to be had...
