A suspect is held in custody as three servicemen were wounded Thursday afternoon at the Forth Worth Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base.
The gunman was depicted by official Navy spokesman Capt. Clay Sanford as a “disgruntled employee”. He is reported to have shot his chief, his officer in charge and himself after walking into the base’s operations center after 12:30pm.
The gunman, an enlisted sailor, is reported to be in critical condition while the soldiers are believed to have “non-life-threatening injuries”. They were all being treated at Harris Methodist Fort Worth Medical Center.
The names will not be released by base officials until they inform their family members.
The base was in lockdown for a short time in the afternoon after the shooting according to Sanford. They gated were later reopened.
The Navy, Air Force, Marines and Texas Air National Guard have nearly 8,000 reservists living on the sprawling compound which also employs hundreds of civilians.
