Learn more about these spaces being staked out for use as zine archives, meeting rooms, day care centers, concert venues, free skools, and bookstores, from the folks who run them.

Free Speech Buffet
Monday June 29th, 6-9pm, The Washington Home of Stewart Mott, 122 Maryland Ave., NE

The Annual Convention of the American Libraries Association will be held this year in Washington, DC during the last week of June.

During the ALA Convention, the Alternative Press Center and the Alternatives in Print Task Force will host the annual Free Speech Buffet. The Free Speech Buffet is an opportunity for independent publishers in the region to network and to meet socially conscious librarians attending the ALA Convention.

In New York City in 1996, more than 150 librarians attended the Free Speech Buffet, which was held at the Mechanics Library, and 25 publishers displayed their periodicals and books. In San Francisco in 1997, 40 publishers and about 200 librarians attended the event held at the San Francisco Public Library.

This year the Free Speech Buffet will be held at the Washington Home of Stewart Mott located across from the Supreme Court near the Capitol:

Monday June 29th
6-9pm
The Washington Home of Stewart Mott
122 Maryland Ave., NE
Washington, DC 20002.

We would much appreciate your participation at the Free Speech Buffet. ALA Convention attendees will be admitted free. To help defer costs for the event, we ask that publishers make a contribution of $25, or more, if resources allow.

Hope to see you there.
