More Naked Jailings

by Lorenzo Komboa Ervin

The last time I was talking about naked jailings of prisoners, it was about Kalamazoo, a city of 85,000 people in Southwest Michigan. Over 25 cases were discovered by racist cops in this city, and it has caused an outrage that has still not subsided. It has caused the hiring of another police chief, and reshuffling of the political deck in local politics, but little else. The cops sheepishly still claim to have done this as an "accident" or an attempt to "stop a suicide", which makes no sense whatsoever. Nobody has been punished, and although the ex-prisoners have sued in federal court, they have not been compensated.

Black People Have A Right To Rebel

by Lorenzo Komboa Ervin

A massive anti-cop rebellion has broken out in Cincinnati over the police shootings of 15 Black men, ranging in ages of 12-44 years old, all unarmed. The latest case of Timothy Thomas, a 19-year old brother, allegedly wanted for misdemeanor traffic offenses, was gunned down last week by a crazed white cop. The Black community has risen up in a massive protest against this racist occupying army, poverty, and other forms of mistreatment. Now, we are being told by various White politicians and their paid Uncle Toms that even more massive police violence should be trained on us "to keep the peace", and "stop the violence". Not the cop violence and murder, which has gone on for years, but the current rebellion by our people against police forces.

White On White Crime?

by Lorenzo Komboa Ervin

I get so tired of hearing all this garbage about "Black-on-Black crime" that the media created to hypocritically denounce internal crimes and contradictions in our communities, and justify police control of the community. I can prove it's propaganda.

Pro-Cop Editorial a Bit Confused On Anarchism

by Kadd Stephens

I realize you likely have nothing to do with the submission from Mr. Katul, which appeared recently, characterizing anarchists in the Eugene area as a hate group. While I know neither the anarchists there, or My. Katul (I live in DC), I read the piece and felt that it warranted a response that had some rooting in reality.

Capitalist "anti-capitalism"? Whatever next?

by Anarcho

Dear Guardian

George Monbiot (Guardian, "Raising the Temperature", 24/7/01) differentiates between Hamoq and Hamas forms of protest, and lumps the "Black Block" into the former. Hamas, he informs us, explains itself. Sadly for his account, this is not the case with the Black Block tactic (and it is a tactic, not some kind of international secret group). If those using it target property (and they often do not), they make a point of targeting only corporate property and explain why (as per Monbiot's own example of McDonald's, I must stress). As such, the Black Block is clearly "Hamas." In the words of a white overall (which Monbiot holds up as an example of "Hamas"):

Why Richard Tate should be part of something less confusing

by Lawrence Jarach

In Richard Tate's diatribe against the recent Bay Area Anarchist Conference, he makes so many incoherent observations/complaints within a context that is thoroughly confusing that it's difficult to know how to respond. But respond I will, as the reviewer of The Beast Reawakens, as one of the co-organizers of the conference itself, and as the facilitator (or chairperson or whatever the position is called) of the workshop entitled "Should Anarchists Be Part of the Left?"

Myths and Legends - Gandhi

Taken from "Organise!", the magazine of the Anarchist Communist Federation.

ORGANISE! IS STARTING a new series, Myths and Legends, which will take a look at various 'Sacred Cows', diagnose BSE and recommend culling. We kick off with a look at the 'saint' of non-violence, Mahatma Gandhi.

Mahatma Gandhi is often cited by pacifists as the shining example of how non-violent civil disobedience works successfully. Unfortunately, these paeans of praise leave out a close study of Gandhi's role in the Indian struggle for 'independence', and just as importantly, who were his class allies in that struggle.
